On California's North Coast, demographics reveal a slow and steady growth rate (16.6% over the last 20 years), compared to the rapid rate of growth to the south. As urban areas to the south become increasingly congested, more and more people are moving northward into still lightly populated areas such as Humboldt, Del Norte and Trinity Counties. This recent wave of development and population increase has caused skyrocketing land values, forcing subdivision and development of Northcoast lands.
The Northcoast Regional Land Trust works with landowners on a voluntary basis to promote stewardship of Northern California's healthy and productive resource base, natural systems and quality of life through the use of many conservation tools, including conservation easements, and through fee title acquisition.

PAST AND PRESENT PROJECTS
Since our incorporation in 2000, NRLT has protected over 6,000 acres of ranch and timberlands with conservation easements; 320 acres of salmon-spawning tributaries in the Mattole River watershed; acquired a 54 acre property now managed for sustainable agriculture, wildlife, wetlands protection, recreation and education; and is currently assisting private landowners in placing conservation easements on over 17,000 acres of working ranches in Humboldt County as part of a landscape-scale protection effort we call "Six Rivers to the Sea."
