As
a trust for regional conservation, NRLT is at the forefront of
institutions preserving the Northcoast region's natural resources,
beauty and quality of life. Dimensions of our Regional Planning
efforts include: - Identifying and prioritizing NRLT's conservation targets (i.e. biological resources, natural landscape types and other elements);
- Determining which agencies, organizations, and policies are addressing conservation targets and associated threats across the region, and specifically how they are doing so;
- Development of a North Coast Conservation Planning GIS Database in order to centralize information and build local capacity for conservation planning and projects implementation (including biological and economic resource maps, current land-use and ownership patterns, zoning overlays, existing reserves, landscape linkages, etc.);
- Developing detailed strategies for attaining conservation goals, conducting additional research, outreach, interviews, and focus group discussions as necessary;
- Identifying key projects and conservation partners for implementing strategies and attaining goals; and
- Compiling and writing a Strategic Conservation Action Plan for the California North Coast.
The primary goal of NRLT's Strategic Conservation Action Plan for the California North Coast
is to develop and implement strategic conservation planning and
land-protection projects that are vital to sustaining the diversity and
productive capacity of North Coast landscapes. Working with local and
regional partners, we will create a strategic conservation action plan
for the North Coast and participate in county-level planning processes
to promote natural systems and sustainable agriculture.
